Village Hall Closing

March 31, 2020

Ten days ago, we made the decision to close Village Hall and the Public Works Building to help mitigate the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) until April 1st. Since that time the Governor of the State of Illinois enacted Executive Order 2020-10 ordering everyone to stay home, work from home or shelter in at their place of residence, except as allowed within the Executive Order, until April 7, 2020. The original decision to remain closed through April 1st will now be extended to April 7th to coincide with the Governors Executive Order. All non-emergency staff will continue working remotely from home until April 7th and we will continue to monitor the recommendations of the Governor’s Office, the CDC and the IDPH.

This COVID-19 pandemic is real and extremely dangerous particularly to the senior population and to those with compromised immune systems. Our staff and its extended family have not been immune. We have five confirmed cases of coronavirus and four cases where we are waiting for test results. In Illinois, cases are doubling every 3 to 4 days. The well-being of our community is of the utmost importance, and the greatest way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to limit exposure.

Please do your part by following the CDC’s and IDPH’s precautionary measures to help mitigate the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and save lives. If you are staying home, practicing social distancing and washing your hands, you are helping to save lives.

To help saves lives, The Village of Olympia Fields is announcing two initiatives. First, we have developed a new Coronavirus mini website to provide the latest up-to-date information on the ongoing response to the pandemic. It provides one stop shopping to valuable information about how to stay safe, frequently asked questions, and available alerts and resources in and around our village. Please go to www.olympia-fields.com

Second, with everyone staying home, practicing social distancing and constant washing of your hands, your water bills may increase. The village will discount the April or May bill by 10% depending on your billing cycle.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and support during this time. As this is a developing situation, The Village will continue to monitor and assess these protocols and adjust as needed. We will alert the community via the Village’s website so please sign up to receive email notifications at www.olympia-fields.com.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. In the meantime, please exercise preventative measures and safe practices, be mindful of others, and check on your neighbors and loved ones.

Thank you for listening to this important announcement and together we will get thru these unprecedented times. Remember, staying home, practicing social distancing and washing hands saves lives.

Sincerely,

Sterling M. Burke
Village President

Village Residents,

In response to the guidance of health officials with the Centers for Disease Control, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the decision by the Governor of the State of Illinois, ordering all restaurants and bars across the state to close to dine-in customers starting at the end of business ‪today through March 30th, The Village of Olympia Fields is implementing a series of precautionary measures to help mitigate the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The well being of our community is of the utmost importance, and the greatest way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to limit exposure. With that in mind, effective immediately, for the safety of our residents and staff, Village Hall (20040 Governors Highway) and the Public Works Building (20701 Governors Highway) will suspend all non-emergency operations and shut down ‪until Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

As of last Friday, all regularly scheduled meetings for the Board of Trustees, Committees and Commissions and Homeowner Associations were cancelled. Effective today, all non-emergency in home appointments and inspections have been suspended. Residents will have the option to make payments online, or use the drop box located just south of the main entrance at Village Hall. The public should continue to call the general phone number, ‪708-503-8000, and phone calls will be directed to the correct staff person who will respond in as timely a manner as possible.

The health and safety of our residents and staff is our prime objective. It is important that we limit the spread of the virus in our community by practicing social distancing, prudent use of existing health care options and available public safety resources. Residents should continue to call ‪911 in cases of emergencies. While first responders will continue to respond to 911 calls, they are making contingency plans and modifying procedures as appropriate.

The COVID-19 pandemic is extremely dangerous particularly to the senior population and to those with compromised immune systems. We will have regular updates from St. James Hospital on the Village’s website as they receive the latest news from the CDC and the IDPH as the events continue to evolve.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and support during this time. As this is a developing situation, the Village will continue to monitor and assess these protocols and adjust as needed. We will alert the community via email and the Village’s website so please sign up to receive email notifications at ‪www.olympia-fields.com.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. In the meantime, please exercise preventative measures and safe practices, be mindful of others, and check on your neighbors and loved ones.

Sincerely,

Sterling M. Burke
Village President
