Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens’ Police Academy is designed to give participants insight into law enforcement techniques, local/state laws, and police policies/procedures.

The 2018 Summer/Fall Session of the Citizens Police Academy will begin on August 16, 2018.  Application Deadline is August 10, 2018.

The Olympia Fields Police Department is hosting a Citizens Police Academy designed to give participants an understanding of the operations of a police department and a working knowledge of what Law Enforcement is all about. Our academy is a 6-week program which will begin August 16, 2018 and end September 20, 2018. Class will be every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

What is the Citizens Police Academy (CPA)?

Have you ever wondered what police do every day? The Olympia Fields Citizens Police Academy is a program designed for community oriented policing to assist residents of Olympia Fields to learn more about their local department.

The CPA program consists of a series of classes held 1 night a week for a 2-hour duration.  The classes are taught by our own police officers in their various areas of expertise.

Why Participate?

The Olympia Fields Police Department adheres to the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing and is committed to a mission of consistent excellence with citizens of the Village. CPA gives citizens the opportunity to develop direct lines of communication with the Police Department. It is hoped that the program will strengthen the police-community relationship through an educational process, increase understanding of police practices and procedures, and misconceptions. In return, the police department will become more aware of the concerns and questions of the community it serves.

The Academy will also have a graduation ceremony and each participant will receive a certificate of completion. Graduates are encouraged to join the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. This will give graduates the opportunity for further interactive association with the police department and service the Village of Olympia Fields at special events and activities.

Who Can Attend?

If you live or work in the Village of Olympia Fields, you can attend our Citizen Police Academy. Participants must complete an application and must be of good moral character with no felony convictions.

What the Academy is NOT.

The Academy is not designed to make participants certified police officers. The participation and completion of classes is designed to develop partnerships with the community. Graduates are not given police authority to act as police officers.

Participants are expected to attend all sessions in order to graduate but we do understand that emergencies do occur. If you are unable to attend a session, please call Officer L. Bresnahan, 708-503-8100 Ext. 4433. More than two absences will not allow you to graduate.
