Where People Make the Village


Excellence in education is a high priority in Olympia Fields. In the center of one of the neighborhoods of Olympia Fields can be found its own K-2nd grade school. Arcadia School is located in the center of a residential neighborhood. The school takes a proactive approach to educational issues. 

Children in grades 3 through 8 will attend a quality educational system in a neighboring community. Busing is provided to all who attend. Several parochial schools are also available within a short distance from Olympia Fields.

Olympia Fields is also part of an the Rich Township High School District 227. Rich Central High School, located in the village, is one of three high schools in the system. It is located at 203rd Street and Governors Highway, Olympia Fields. At Rich Central, students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular programs. Clubs include areas of sports, foreign language, and academics.

Incoming freshmen is also eligible to participate in the lottery to attend Southland College Prep Charter High School. It is open to 8th grade graduates who reside in the Rich Township School District 227 attendance boundaries. Southland College Prep is unique in that students must take 4 years of english, mathematics, science, social science, world language, technology, fine arts, and physical education in order to graduate.

Colleges and Universities

Prairie State College in Chicago Heights is one of the state's most respected colleges. It offers associate degrees in several areas of study including liberal arts, business and vocational training.

Governors State University is also within a short drive from the village. GSU offers a wide variety of programs and curriculums.

Other nearby colleges and university include Joliet Junior College,  South  Suburban College, Trinity Christian College, Lewis University, as well as Chicago's many institutions of higher education.

The METRA train service has two stations in the  village which makes for easy access to many universities located in Chicago. The average commute to downtown Chicago from Olympia Fields is 45 minutes. From there, bus service is available to most locations.

Houses of Worship

Several churches and synagogues representing most every major religious denomination are located in or near Olympia Fields. Besides offering regular worship services and religious education, many provide their congregation members with opportunities to serve the community through outreach programs, food pantries and other social services.

The Village is conveniently located on US Route 30 two miles west of I-57, offering convenient access to the rest of Chicagoland. The Village is also served by two stations of the METRA Electric Commuter Railroad, with frequent access to downtown Chicago.
