Restrictions on lawn sprinkling and other water usages - Generally commencing from May 15 through September 15 of each year, it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to use water for the sprinkling or irrigation of lawns or gardens, except on an odd/even basis only (on odd calendar days if the last digit in the street address is odd or on the even calendar days if the last digit in the street address is even), between the hours of seven o'clock (7:00) A.M. and eleven o'clock (11:00) A.M. or seven o'clock (7:00) P.M. and eleven o'clock (11:00) P.M.

Further restrictions may apply in emergency conditions which shall be announced by the village president after notification by the Village of Oak Lawn, and shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

Tier II (Total Ban): Sprinkling or irrigation of lawns or gardens (manually or by and automatic lawn sprinkler or irrigation system) is prohibited.

The Village reserves the right to further limit the hours of sprinkling or irrigation or suspend the use of water for sprinkling or irrigation of lawns or gardens or for any other special purpose(s) when supplies indicate this action is necessary. In addition, the Village shall post the notice of the water use restriction, including the type and duration of such restriction, within the customary posting place in the Village Hall, on the village's cable access television channel, its website, if applicable, and in any other medium normally used by the Village to communicate information of public concern to the residents and public.

Who do I call before I dig?

Residents are reminded to call J.U.L.I.E. (Joint Utilities Locating for Excavators) at (800) 892-0123 before digging to avoid damaging underground utilities. It is a state law to call J.U.L.I.E. before you dig. J.U.L.I.E. is a free notification service that alerts utility companies of planned digging activities in the area. Violators shall be subject to a fine.

Who do I call about the sewer backing up?

If you experience a problem with your sanitary sewer backing up we recommend your contacting the Public Works department prior to calling a plumber. Our department will then check the main sewer line for any possible problems. If it is determined that the main sewer line is clear you will then be notified to contact a plumber to check your service line for a possible blockage.

    Snow Removal Policy

Road salt is used to keep our streets clear during minor snow accumulations. When plowing is necessary during a larger snowfall event, a single pass will be maintained in each direction of all Village roadways, keeping a lane open for emergency and vehicular traffic. Final widening and cleanup efforts will take place after the storm has subsided. Please do not park vehicles on Village streets until snow removal operations have been completed. Consider postponing the removal of snow from the end of your driveway until our final widening pass has been made. Residents are asked not to shovel or plow snow from their driveways into the street which can create a hazard for vehicular traffic.
